Sucess Stories

In His Own Words

I came to live here when I was 13 years old. At the time, I didn’t really like being told what to do and I definitely wasn’t a big fan of routines. Staff would try to get me up, go to school, keep my room tidy and stick to house rules – and I wasn’t always happy about it.

Looking back now though, I know they were doing it because they wanted the best for me.

Building Skills for Independence

Over time the routines actually started to help. Staff supported me to keep going to education, and they’ve helped me learn a lot of important things that I’ll need when I’m older. I’ve learned how to cook for myself, manage day-to-day things, and work towards getting a job and being more independent.

Trusted Relationships That Matter

One thing that has made a big difference is the relationships I’ve built with the staff team. Some of them have known me for years now and they understand me really well. They’ve supported me through the good times and the difficult times, and they’ve always been there when I’ve needed someone to talk to.

Positive Experiences and New Opportunities

Living here hasn’t just been about routines and responsibilities though. I’ve also had some really good experiences. I’ve been on holiday to Marbella, which was amazing, and we’ve done loads of activities like camping trips, go-karting and bowling, which are some of my favourite things to do.

Preparing for the Future

I know that when I turn 18 I’ll need to move on and start living more independently, which is something I’m working towards now. But if I’m honest, I don’t really want to leave because this place has been a big part of my life for a long time.

Growing in Confidence and Responsibility

The staff here have helped me grow up, learn new skills and prepare for the future. Even though I didn’t always like the routines at the start, I know now that they’ve helped me become more confident, responsible and ready for what comes next.”

The Outcome

Over time, consistent support and routines helped him remain engaged with education and brought more structure and stability to his daily life.

He developed important independence skills, including cooking for himself, managing day to day responsibilities, and preparing for work and adult life.

He built strong, trusting relationships with staff who understood him well, supported him through both positive and difficult times, and were always there when he needed someone to talk to.

As a result of this support, he became more confident, more responsible, and better prepared for the future and the move towards more independent living.
