Sucess Stories - Leah
Creating Safety Through Careful Planning
When Leah, name changed for confidentiality, came to live with us, she was considered high risk for going missing and had a pattern of frequent missing episodes in previous placements, which had made it difficult for her to feel settled and meant previous environments had struggled to provide the stability she needed. From the outset, the Registered Manager and staff worked closely with the Local Authority to ensure the placement was carefully planned and fully considered, with a robust location risk assessment completed to make sure the environment, support structures and safeguarding strategies were appropriate for her needs.
Careful Placement Planning
The decision to place Leah in the home was made through strong partnership working between the home and the Local Authority, ensuring that the placement could offer both the structure and the opportunities she needed to feel safe and supported.
Clear safeguarding strategies, staff guidance, and consistent routines were implemented to create a stable environment where Leah could begin to rebuild trust with the adults supporting her
Building Relationships and Stability
A key focus of the work with Leah was developing positive and trusting relationships with the staff team. Through patience, consistency, and meaningful engagement, Leah gradually began to open up and spend more time engaging positively within the home.
As her relationships with staff strengthened, she became more willing to participate in daily routines and activities.
Re-engaging with Opportunities
Over time, Leah began to make significant progress. She started actively engaging with education, something that had previously been difficult for her, and she began taking part in a range of activities that supported her confidence and wellbeing.
One of the activities Leah particularly enjoys is horse riding, which has become a positive and therapeutic outlet for her.
The Outcome

Since moving into the home, Leah’s missing episodes have reduced significantly, representing a major improvement in her safety and stability. She is now spending more time in the home, engaging with staff, and participating in positive activities and education.

This progress has been made possible through careful placement planning, strong partnership with the Local Authority, and the consistent support provided by the staff team.

Leah’s journey demonstrates how the right placement, combined with thoughtful risk management and relationship-based care, can help young people move away from high-risk behaviours and towards a more stable and positive future.

Leah has also developed greater confidence in accepting support from trusted adults, which has helped her build more positive relationships and feel increasingly secure in her day to day life.
